But before we get to that, I have to ask you a question:. Why do people shop at bookstores when you can either get less expensive digital books at Amazon, or get the physical copy shipped within a few days?
Think back to the Tattered Cover bookstore. It is the experience. A few weeks ago, I bought a book online for my Kindle. I could have returned to Amazon to have the physical copy shipped by Prime, but decided I wanted the book sooner. I am a person of limited patience. I suspect I am not that different from most in wanting instant results. So I located a local Barnes and Noble and located the book. Do you sense my sarcasm, or is it lost in print?
Yep, you are right. Which begs the question, why should anyone buy a commodity for more with slower shipping? Regardless, I wanted the book straight away, so I requested it for store pickup. Exceptional service? Brand loyalty? Accuracy on the website? My experience with Barnes and Noble on this occasion is:. Now it has to be stated…. We live in a branded world and brands are the sum of the consumer experience. This goes beyond explicitly stating that you have a competitive advantage; you have to demonstrate it.
Do they do this? Days passed by and they didn't email me back. I sent another email, nothing. The book is gone, removed completely, so what are they selling? The girl told me to email them and gave me the same email address that I've been using. She said there's no phone number for them and absolutely nothing else to do but to email them. This is completely ridiculous. I'm at a loss and being screwed by Barnes and Noble.
Never thought I would ever say those words. My Mom is 89 so books are one of her few pleasures. Arrived 38 days later. When I called 3 weeks after I ordered the card, customer service could care less. Told me they could cancel the card and I could order another. All they cared about was not losing money on their end. Least they could have done was re-order the card for me I already had paid and expedite the shipping.
No more Barnes and Noble. If your file is off by any measures they won't accept it.. And neither will they work with you. I had everything correct to my standard but they want a specific cover size that seemingly is always off by.
I gave up and went with IngramSpark. Lord what a even bigger mistake! But however, LuLu was able to print to my exact standard no questions asked!
I ordered books, went to track my delivery and noticed that they left out my street numbers and books are being returned. Talked to them and see if this could be fixed and resent but was told no. Asked for manager, who proceeded to accuse me of not typing my address right. All that was missing was my home numbers and I have people who saw me type it in.
I will not ever order from them again and neither will my family or friends. On March 3rd I placed an order for a book set. I asked for a refund so that I could go purchase somewhere else. It is a play place, a cafe, and a browsing spot. Small booksellers know this and they make their spaces interesting and welcoming. I saw the end coming after Red Monday the massive layoffs in February. People were getting verbal warnings on memberships, and we were constantly failing our secret shops because of how short staffed we were.
Again, this is a once-in-a-while thing that happens at random. They always try to milk as much as possible out of people. The vibe is just not as positive anymore — on the sales floor or in the break room. And now we sell an insane assortment of pens??
The Nook is way behind and the Book department is all but gone. My store is using the old Nook tables for book displays, and only the Nook desk has any Nooks to try out. Even the Nook leads are gone. In short, the Nook is just another thing to buy, so its existence is negligible in terms of survival.
