Huntington Beach surfer, artist and entrepreneur Dave Reynolds, has created a surfboard wax that smells like the Blue Dream strain of marijuana. The Huntington Beach surfer knew he got it right when he approached a random guy in a parking lot a few years back, handing the stranger a bar of wax and asking what he thought it smelled like.

Reynolds, a surf artist known for his trophies handed out at many of the contests along the coast, learned much about the history of surf wax from an exhibit he curated years ago at the Huntington Beach International Surf Museum.
Some guys tried floor wax on their surfboards. Then began the application of paraffin wax, used at the time by women trying to tan their skin, Reynolds said. Eventually, surfers got wise, adding petroleum jelly to soften the paraffin wax along with scent.
Another big improvement came when someone decided to add calcium carbonate to the wax, giving it a white, creamy look. The best part of this project is dumping the melted remains into a waxed paper cup mold to be remade into a wax bar again for my surfboards. These are the new wax bars after I simmered the oils in them. A lot of people pay extra money for happy smelling surf wax, and now you can make your own too. I really need some patience. Current water temperature is I love it though. Every surfer North of me is gnarlier. I feel the same as you do about open flames.
With 2 dogs and 2 cats in the house it really is not the safest thing. Maybe I can at least find a combination that can make my house smell like a day at the beach!! You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. You are commenting using your Twitter account.

Surf wax creates a bumpy, sticky texture on the top of the surfboard so our feet would stick and not slip while we're on the wave. The bumpy texture would increase the friction and probably decrease performance. Guess I totally misunderstood the purpose.
Makes more sense now, I was pretty skeptical that you could decrease friction in liquid water that way. That said, now I am suddenly thinking about using it on my shaft, to improve grip. It can get a little slippery at times. Although, since my hands are rotating on it constantly, wonder if increasing friction would be a bad thing Paddle shaft.
Get your mind out of the gutter. MotoMike said:. I think they got that from studying shark skin which is sort of like sandpaper. I have not had a problem with my paddle slipping.
